Vienna / September 5

After our first night in a hostel, we woke up early so that we could explore the area around the church we would be having mass at (right).

Pictures can't even do justice to the beautiful city of Vienna. This school trip was an overnight excursion, meaning we would have two full days of seeing the city.

Salzburg / August 29

The next school outing was to Salzburg! After having watched the Sound of Music the night before, we were all ready to go see the beautiful city.

Kartause Barbecue / August 28

The Austrian staff gave us a huge feast! There were literally over five meat options and many more options for the sides. Of course, we all ate at least three servings of meat.

After eating, we played volleyball and came back outside the kartause in time to watch the Sound of Music and eat milka.

Melk (not milk) / August 22

After Durnstein, we headed to Melk where we ate and had a tour of the abbey.

Durnstein (dern-sh-tine) / August 22

For the first school outing, they took us to nearby Durnstein. At Durnstein, we all climbed the hill (more like a mountain) to the castle at the top. This castle is supposedly where King Richard III, the Lion Heart was held captive.

View from the castle. The river in these pictures is the Danube. We saw some of the Viking River Cruise ships on the Danube.

The blue bell tower is the church were we had mass.

Perfectly Packed / August 21

I checked in at the kiosk and lugged my one suitcase that would contain everything I would be using for the next four months onto the scale, silently and fervently praying that it wouldn't weigh over fifty pounds. The lady at the counter states : "Fifty pounds exactly." In disbelief I look at the scale and read 50.0 lbs. The lady commented that I "packed perfectly!"

My luggage made it
to Vienna!
Crammed on the tiny
plane to Chicago.
